Heath Speckman - Sheriff

"Heath Speckman graduated from high school in Colorado Springs in 2000 and soon after started basic training for the United States Air Force. He completed training at the Security Forces Technical School, Airman Leadership School, and Non-Commissioned Officer Academy, and earned special qualifications as an Air Force Raven and Counter-Sniper. Heath served as a non-commissioned officer for more than 5 years, working in several locations worldwide. During his service, he also earned two associate degrees, one in Criminal Justice and one in Business Administration.

In 2010, Heath left the Air Force with an honorable discharge to start a small business. Running his own business taught him to manage budgets, lead employees, and assume all the responsibilities of ownership. He found that success comes from offering honest, full-service with a committed team focused on helping others.

In 2016, Heath and his wife moved back to Colorado after he sold his business. That same year, Heath joined the Colorado State Patrol, completed the six-month training academy, and earned his Colorado POST certification. He proudly served Leadville, Lake County, until 2022, when he left the State Patrol to run for Lake County Sheriff. This life-changing decision was driven by his strong connection to the community and his desire to make a difference in the lives of his friends and neighbors.

Heath has served his country, state, and county, and is committed to continuing his work in Lake County. Over the past four years as Sheriff, Heath has made remarkable improvements and set strategic goals to enhance public safety services in Lake County. Heath is also the Board Chair for the Lake County 911 Authority, which focuses on improving emergency communication services in our county. He looks forward to the opportunity to serve another term as the Sheriff of Lake County."
